How Harry Potter has United a Fandom
Jasmine K. Harrison

Roundtable discussion on the Harry Potter phenomenon and cohesive effect it has on it's fans.  How has it effected your life? Why do you think this fandom has created such friendships? Is it more or less than any fandom?

I am the organizer of a Harry Potter group.  I joined in 2004 and have met some people who are my life long friends.  I organized a Harry Potter event in 2007 and was shocked at the outpouring of support from fans in the Harry Potter community.  Is this due to fans embracing the principals stressed in Harry Potter? The ideas of loving others no matter how different they may seem, or the theme that we are stronger together than we are apart?
How will this effect a generation of fans in the long run?

Jasmine is a graduate of the University of Houston with a degree in Print Journalism and minor in Creative Writing. This will be her third HPEF conference and saying she’s excited about Infinitus is an understatement. Jasmine got into Harry Potter one lonely day away at school when she switched on the television and came across a movie about an equally as lonely boy living in a cupboard under the stairs. The rest, as they say, is history. Jasmine is currently the lead organizer of the Houston Harry Potter Meetup group. She’s been a member of the group for four years, and has met lifelong friends through her involvement.
