Are You Smarter than a Fifth-Grade Alchemist?
Deborah Hunt

Based on the television show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader?” this is a funny approach to the complicated subject of Alchemy. Every so often, the slideshow will present questions for audience participation, Jeff Foxworthy style, for example:

Who invented the Elixer of Life? Nicholas Flamel or Jack Daniels?
True or False: Did Nicholas Flamel have a Cash for Gold store on Diagon Alley?
Dragonsblood, Unicorn blood, Snakes, Phoenixes, Green and Red Lions are all terms related to alchemy. Using Harry Potter characters and plot as reference, the basics of Alchemy will be presented.
How are Snape and Neville both Green Lions?
How do Harry, Ron, and Hermione relate to Salt, Sulphur, and Mercury? Or do they? Several fans used alchemy theories to support ships prior to 2007 and debated the merits of these three ingredients and the Trio.

Deborah holds a Master of Divinity degree from Christian Theological Seminary. She is employed in the Pediatric Critical Care unit of Methodist hospital in Indiana assisting families who have children in traumatic situations. To get a break from such seriousness, she loves fantasy and science fiction, especially Harry Potter. She developed an interest in alchemy after reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Philosopher's Stone. Currently, she is writing an HP fan-fiction novel which incorporates Alchemy in depth and also a non-fiction book relating to Harry Potter and theology.  She is not an alchemist. In fact, she is not even a good cook.
